The film ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ seemed to strike a chord with many people particularly the film’s masked ball orgy sequence and its rousing musical scores and its psycho-sexual effects. The use of masks to conceal one’s identity and the visions of masked girls in heels and cloaks seemed to release the ‘primal’ side within many people. The film was also a reminder of the historical French and Italian Masquerades, many of which included tales of erotic experimentation and the anonymity provided by wearing masks.
